Gumburu

Gumburu is the Townsville Catholic Education Office environmental education centre.

It nestles in the heart of Paluma, a small village at the southern tip of North Queensland’s world heritage rainforest. It is about a one and a half hour drive from Townsville.

Gumburu has a resident manager and support staff. It caters for 40 people with single bed accommodation in four separate units. Its modern facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge, ablution block laundry and secure vehicle parking. All facilities have wheelchair access.

Gumburu is a special place for thousands of children to learn about the environment, sustainable living and their affinity with their creator.

More than 30,000 children and adults have visited Gumburu since its opening in 1994. Many have used the facility for personal and spiritual enrichment, artistic workshops, leadership training and specific areas such as history, biology and geography.
