Living and Working on Palm Island

Established in 1938, the school enjoys magnificent ocean views and natural surroundings including a creek, green hills and beachfront.

The island is full of natural beauty, with extensive flora and fauna. 

Palm Island is located within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park consisting of picturesque small bays, sandy beaches and forested mountains rising to a peak of 547 metres. The population has a residential population of more than 2000 people, it is easily accessible from Townsville via flights (25 minutes) and Ferry (1.45 hours).

St Michael's Catholic School exists to service the community's Indigenous people, with the majority of students being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. With an enrolment range of around 130 students from Prep to Year 6, St Michael’s has a committed staff and strong relationship with St Anne's Catholic Parish and the local community.
