Townsville Catholic Education Senior Social Worker, Jennifer Blackshaw oversees student protection in our schools.
A remarkable campaign called, #makeachoiceyouwontregret is being launched in early Term 4, which talks about the inappropriate use of social media.
While Townsville Catholic Education ensures that all students participate in cyber safety awareness workshops, with cyber experts regularly invited to schools to caution students of the dangers of the online world, Jennifer believes that the majority of young people make responsible choices and can influence their peers in a positive way.
“The campaign came from listening to students and recognising that they are a powerful voice and there is an untapped wisdom in the voices of our young people,” Jennifer said.
“There are instances of students who may make a poor decision while online, however, with support and education, as well as the wisdom of older peers, we can contribute to enhancing their awareness of the consequences of inappropriate behaviour and decisions online.”
