Conference to Welcome Indigenous Leaders
14th October 2019
Townsville will this week welcome more than 200 educators and school staff attending the 2019 Catholic Indigenous Education Conference at The Ville from Monday to Wednesday.
The conference has attracted delegates from around Australia who work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Townsville Catholic Education Indigenous Education Advisor, Tammi Webber, said the delegates will be sharing their experiences and knowledge across four themes of education, health, community and spirituality.
“There are many teams in our schools who are developing and implementing innovative and exciting programs and they will be sharing these contemporary strategies,” Tammi said. “A conference highlight will be the keynote presentation from community elder, Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann.”
Dr Miriam-Rose served for many years as the principal of the Catholic primary school in Nauiyu, located in the Daly River region of Northern Territory. A recipient of the order of Australia, Dr Miriam-Rose is a renowned artist, activist and writer.
