St Benedict's Eco Fest
11th September 2019
Year 5 and 6 students at St Benedict’s Catholic School, Shaw have been busy planning the annual ‘Eco Fest’. The event showcases ways in which each of the classrooms undergo sustainable practices in their classrooms throughout the year in their eProjects.
“At St Benedict’s Catholic School, we believe that some learning is best done with a hands-on approach where students are engaged in projects,” said Principal, Penny Collins.
“The ‘e’ in eProjects stands for environment, engagement and educational. While we still develop our learning experiences based on the expectations of the Australian Curriculum, we use the eProjects concept to draw on certain aspects of some subjects together to create a deeper, more enriched learning experience.”
Amongst the students putting together their stalls to showcase their initiatives, local businesses and groups will also partake in the Eco Fest to share their sustainable practices and give advice on how we can live a more sustainable life. Some of the businesses include St Vincent de Paul Society, Landcare Australia, Wildlife Care, Boomerang Bags and Townsville City Council.
