On Thursday 20th of February, 75 Year 1 students from St Benedict’s Catholic School, Townsville travelled to the Bohle Wetlands as a part of World Wetlands Day Celebrations.
The students toured the newly revegetated site with the expert guidance of Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Project Officer Jacob Hancock.
These Year 1 students are involved in a yearlong environmental project aimed at instilling a sense of understanding and stewardship towards the natural environment, specifically Waterways and Wetlands. For this excursion, students travelled to a Wetlands within just a stone’s throw of the new school grounds. This adventure provided an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning and exploration for their enthusiastic group of young students.
“St Benedict’s Catholic School has been partnering with Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare and strengthening their community partnership since 2019, with Year 3 students previously involved in the design and creation of Wetland signage now proudly displayed along the wetlands trail for the public to enjoy,” said Principal, Ms Penny Collins.
