St Anthony’s College Drama Teacher Receives Prestigious Award for Creative Research

Todd Barty, Drama Teacher at St Anthony’s Catholic College, has been awarded the Colin Roderick Prize for English Honours for his coursework and thesis, including the creation of the play “Knock, Knock, Knock!”, which will be performed by St Anthony’s Catholic College students in June.

Barty’s play is a Magical Realist and Australian Gothic piece with themes of resilience and independence. The story follows a group of goth kids who find a staircase to nowhere that leads them to three dream worlds. The first is set in the small town of Ravenswood in the early twentieth century, the second surrounds a sinister guru in the 1960s, and the third occurs in a climate ravaged future.

Barty is heavily involved in the theatre scene in Townsville and will be sharing his research at the Drama Queensland conference in May.

“I am incredibly humbled to receive this award, and incredibly proud of my students for bringing my story to life in the play,” said Barty.

“We are all looking forward to sharing it with the community in June.”

The Play will take place at St Anthony’s Catholic College, Deeragun San Damiano Centre Courtyard from 8-10 June at 7pm.

The play is open to the public, Tickets are $20 for Adults and $15 for Students. Tickets can be purchased at the Assisi campus office prior to the event, or on the night.
