Reaching for the best in Indigenous Teaching

Townsville Catholic Education (TCEO), together with James Cook University are conducting a research project aimed at improving outcomes for Indigenous students by finding the best teaching practices to support their learning, the ‘Pedagogy of Difference’ research.

The study is occurring with schools in the Townsville Diocese, primarily in the Mount Isa area.

Tammi Webber, TCEO Indigenous Education Adviser, says that the main driver for the research is to give a voice to Indigenous parents and students about what teachers in our Catholic schools need to be aware of and work towards with the students.

Mount Isa will play a big role at the upcoming International Indigenous Education Conference in Toronto, Canada.

Ms Webber is attending the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education later this month, which showcases world’s best practice and Ms Webber will be presenting the findings of the “Pedagogy of Difference’ research.
