Planning for Townsville's newest primary school in our northern suburbs is well underway.
Townsville Catholic Education Office is planning for the Kindergarten to Year 6 facility in time for the 2018 school year.
Located at Dalrymple Road, Shaw, St Benedict’s Catholic School will service the city’s growth area of the Bohle, Mount Louisa, Kalynda Chase and Kirwan. The new school has been flagged with the Queensland Schools Planning Commission as assisting to meet the needs of the growing northern corridor.
Progress to date has included:
- The establishment of a Steering Committee to guide the development of the site.
- Site had been purchased.
- Development Application has been approved by Townsville City Council.
- Applications have been lodged through educational authorities for approval of the new school. Awaiting funding announcement by the State Government (expected late 2016)
School name - honouring St Benedict
Choosing a name is a significant milestone. The school’s culture will reflect the grace and spirit of St Benedict, known as a gentle, dignified, strong, peace-loving man, who by the subtle power of sympathy became the centre of the lives and interests of all about him. Benedictine spirituality is the foundation of our meditation prayer life which all Catholic schools across the Diocese follow. We believe meditation builds community and St Benedict shows us the way of community.St Benedict is known as the father of the modern monasteries, and he had a focus on unity and fraternity as he brought together groups of monks into cohesive communities, sharing prayer and reflection.
The site is part of the Catholic Parish known as the Ministerial Region of the Good Shepherd, currently led by Fr Dave Lancini. Our planning shows the Diocesan commitment to the social infrastructure of our growing city.
