Young Athlete to receive Olympic Flag

In October 2018, 4000 young athletes from across the globe set foot in Argentina to compete in the most prestigious event in the world for young athletes, the Youth Olympic Games. Athletes between 15-18 years old from 206 countries competed in 32 sports. Amongst these 4000 athletes was St Margaret Mary’s College student, Alexandra Fowler who competed in Basketball and graduated from St Margaret Mary’s College in 2018.

Australia produced a team of 88 athletes who competed across 26 sports, claiming 16 individual and five mixed international medals.

Alexandra, with her team mates Ruby Poster, Sara-Rose Smith and Rosie Deega were Australia’s 3x3 basketballers who competed in Argentina. The girls only started training together for the first time just prior to the Games beginning. They had only ever known each other as competition, hailing from four different states of Australia. The team were underdogs going into the tournament but capped off their campaign winning the Bronze Medal.
