Scholarships
With teacher shortages being on the National Agenda, Townsville Catholic Education is taking a proactive approach to attract potential employees to the education industry through offering focused scholarships.
Townsville Catholic Education has created three scholarships that are aimed at providing financial support to local high school and university students with aspirations of becoming teachers.

About the scholarships available
Year 10 Student Scholarships
Townsville Catholic Education is offering scholarships to Year 10 students interested in pursuing a career in teaching. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Complete the Certificate III in School Based Education Support or Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care in Year 11, at no cost, with work placement of one day per week in a Catholic school (optional).
- Complete two education subjects online through James Cook University (JCU), Central Queensland University (CQU), or University of Southern Queensland (USQ) during Year 11/12, at no cost.
- Upon enrolment in an approved education degree, students may apply for a second scholarship.
University Student Scholarships – 1st Year Students
Townsville Catholic Education is offering up to five scholarships for university students aspiring to become teachers. The benefits of this scholarship include:
- A $10,000 allowance ($2,500 per year) for each year of an approved four year education course.
- Professional development opportunities provided by Townsville Catholic Education.
- Support for organising professional experience placement in a Townsville Catholic Education school, including a living allowance of $170 per week (rural/remote) or $140 per week (Townsville), travel expenses (return flight or reimbursement), and assistance with arranging accommodation.
University Student Scholarships – 3rd Year Students
Townsville Catholic Education is offering up to five scholarships for university students aspiring to become teachers. The benefits of this scholarship include:
- A $10,000 allowance ($5,000 per year) for the final two years of study in a teacher education course.
- Professional development opportunities provided by Townsville Catholic Education.
- Support for the final year professional experience placement in a Townsville Catholic Education school, including a living allowance of $170 per week (rural/remote) or $140 per week (Townsville), travel expenses (return flight or reimbursement), and assistance with arranging accommodation.
