Eco Warriors 2023

On Tuesday 12 September, 100 of our local Catholic school student became Eco Warriors, fighting for the environment at our 12th Eco Warriors’ Day.

Eco Warriors’ Day 2023 was held at St Benedict’s Catholic School on Tuesday 12th September from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm.  Students and teachers got together to take action and learned more about how to live sustainably by listening to industry experts in the field of environmental management. This year the Eco Warriors again collaborated with Jack Growden, Founder & CEO of Litehause International who inspired students about the importance of living and working sustainably.  He spoke on the importance of living and working sustainably, being a net producer rather than a net consumer and caring about social issues

Townsville City Council also generously gifted each student with a native seedling. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) helped students understand the challenges facing dugongs in finding food and avoiding predators and other threats and learn how to identify turtle species, engaging in discussions about ways to minimise our use of plastic and prevent it from entering the environment.

There were displays for students to visit and learn from experts about how to make changes, take action and give back to the world around us. Interactive displays included Earthcare, making beeswax wraps, NQ Native Bees and Birdlife Townsville, providing students with the knowledge and skills to live a more sustainable life and care for creation. Other visiting experts included the Gudjuda Land and Sea Rangers, JCU Environmental Science and Tangalooma Ecomarines. Students learned about their work for the planet and people and how they might become stewards of our environment.
