Parent Engagement

Parents have the opportunity to be part of School Boards or P&F committees. Serving as a member of an elected school board is a great way to create a shared vision for the success of the school. It takes part in shaping and monitoring the school's objectives, priorities and general policy directions. The P&F is an integral part of the Catholic school and provides a formal structure and support network for parents to participate in the activities and decision making processes at the school and to work for the benefit of the school and students. 

School Boards

Catholic School Boards across the Townsville Diocese serve as advisory groups, offering spiritual guidance and strategic support on major school policies and long-term planning. By maintaining a steady presence, the Board helps ensure continuity for the school community through changes in leadership, staff, and student enrollments.

Composed of eight to ten members, including parents and carers, the Board meets monthly to advise the principal in a collaborative, reflective atmosphere. This role complements, rather than replaces, the Parents and Friends Association (P&F), which remains the official representative body for parents in official and community matters.

Parents and Friends Association

Catholic School Parents Queensland (CSPQ)-  Diocese of Townsville represents every Catholic school community in the region, with every parent and carer automatically holding membership. At the school level, parent groups (such as P&F, CAFÉ or FACE) meet monthly to organise events, foster engagement, and act as the official voice for families when liaising with leadership, local government, and community bodies. While many schools also operate Catholic School Boards, the essential role of parent groups remains distinct and fully supported.

At the diocesan level, schools send up to two delegates to the CSPQ Diocesan Council for quarterly meetings and an annual AGM in Term 1. Key council initiatives include $2,500 Engagement Grants for long-term school projects, Mappas Medallions to honor outstanding volunteer service, and accessible guest speaker events hosted online and in person across the diocese.

Across Queensland, CSPQ State Council advocates for families directly with the State Government and the Queensland Catholic Education Commission while offering administrative support to regional and school groups.
