St Mary's Catholic School Celebrates 150 Years of Excellence in Bowen

St Mary's Catholic School is celebrating 150 years of dedicated service to the Bowen community in 2023. Since its establishment in 1873, St Mary's has been an enduring symbol of faith, knowledge, and service, providing generations of students with a strong foundation for success.

Principal Alicia Ninnes shared, "This is an extraordinary occasion for St Mary's Catholic School, as we reflect on 150 years of unwavering commitment to nurturing the minds, hearts, and spirits of our students. We are dedicated to offering an exceptional education that blends the values of tradition and innovation, empowering our students to explore their passions, cultivate critical thinking skills, and emerge as compassionate leaders."

St Mary's has not only thrived academically but has also fostered a sense of community that extends beyond the classroom. Principal Ninnes acknowledged, "Our success over the past century and a half is a testament to the tireless efforts of our exceptional teachers, devoted staff, and supportive families. Together, we have created a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child is cherished, and their potential is realised."

To commemorate this significant milestone, the school organised a weekend of celebrations that brought together past and present staff, students, and their families earlier this month. The festivities included a diverse range of activities for the whole family to enjoy. The celebrations began with an official welcome, cake cutting, and a special blessing by Bishop Tim. Attendees were treated to school tours and entertaining performances by current and former students. A roll call honoured past students in attendance, and the event concluded with a celebratory mass and a meet-and-greet at a local venue.

As St Mary's Catholic School continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to its mission of providing Catholic education that prepares students to excel in the modern world while upholding the values and traditions that have been the foundation of the school community for the past 150 years.
